Whiskers and Rainbows

Just something bright and pretty. I had to change it, 'When Barbie gets KISSed' had been in this part for years!

Featured Artists, Finally! Yay Procrastination!

Thu Nov 12, 2009, 6:16 AM
Okay, so I'm finally getting around to featuring artists...It just took a while. And to make sure that their artwork shows up to best advandage in the journal, I've gone back to the plain old default green, DA journal. That way there isn't as much sparkle and color to distract from the main objective, your art!
I'll probably just update this journal entry until I fill all 19 spots. And if I don't get enough volunteers, I'm just going to feature the people I stalk! Yayyyy!!! lol

DA RULES!!!

1.If you want to be featured, here are the rules, you have to feature 19 other artists in your journal.

2.I have to be one of the top 5 (not the first, because I have had several folks feature me lately, and they can't all be number one, but they will be in the top 5) People that feature me get featured first, volunteers second, and folks I pick last (if I run out of volunteers).

3.Feature at least 3 pieces from each featured artist.

4. Please write a short paragraph or blurb as to why you like this artist's work.

And again, I feature what grabs me, not necessarily what the artist may feel is their masterpiece. So, here goes! Lets hope I get these codes in here right! :P

:iconvanstane:

Okay, so the first artist I'm featuring is Vanstane. Vanstane has a great eye and just an all around wonderful imagination. She manages to create evocative one of a kinds and when she creates a fan piece, she still manages to do it in her own unique style, rather than carbon copying the style of the original creators. Don't get me wrong, being able to recreate a specific style is admirable, but I really like to see fanarts from the perspectives of different artists. Going through her gallery, I saw several pieces that really grabbed me, and something I noticed right away that really stood out to me, was that Vanstane is one of those rare artists that does not mind show casing her VERY EARLY works. It makes a great reference tool. You can really see how an artist grows when you have something to campare like this. So, I'm featuring 3 of her newer works, and one of her older pieces to compare. This is a gallery you really should not miss.

So, for Vanstane's gallery, it's definately worth looking at. I love the Backseat one, totally freaky. The last one is one of her older pieces, I believe she said it was from 1998. Wow, she has really changed, ne?

:iconapeliotus:

Okay, I honestly don't know where to start with Apelioitus's work. One of first things you notice is his amazing attitude comes through in almost everything he creates. Yes, he does alot of fanart, but as I said before, I really admire artists who can take someone else's character concept and put their own spin on it. His original characters are extremely well thought out, and his pixel art is just lovely. Apeliotus also has a wicked sense of humor! Aside from his art, his journal entries and/or rants can be almost as entertaining as browsing his gallery. You should really check out his Yu Yu Hakusho doujinshi. And between you and me, his Y!Gallery page is awesome too. So, without further adue, onto the art!

I know I said I'd try to stick to 3 pieces, but seriously...with so much to choose from, how could I? Enjoy this gallery preview and be sure to stop by and give Apeliotus your kudos!

:iconsayda:

Okay, now obviously when you venture into Sayda's gallery you're going to be struck by the sheer number of deviations. Well done deviations. Amazing deviations. And just plain enviable talent. The thought put into Sayda's characters and designs is visible from the first glance. Her colors are vibrant, her creations well proportioned, and the flow of nearly every piece is perfect. This is a deviant I have been following for a long time, and she just gets better and better. And I have never seen horns put on a humanoid quite like hers. The way it flows from skin to horn makes it look completely natural. I've seen some horns (some I've done as well) where the artist just slaps some hair at the base to cover up the fact that they aren't quite sure how to transition from skull to horn. Not so with Sayda's work. So, without anymore delay, on to the goodies!

Okay, once again, I took more than 3 pieces. Seriously though, can you blame me? And yes, being the yaoi fangirl that I am, as well as being a Gundam Wing nut, I had to inlcude her pic of 1x2! So, enjoy the preview and be sure to scope her gallery!

:iconbabylonsabby:

Alright! Sabby is not only a great artist, but also my IRL (albiet long distance now) friend. When cruising her gallery you will notice that the girl is definately a gamer and yaoi fan....great combination. If you take the time to read her comics you will notice that aside from great artistic talent and a knack for turning half gestated plot bunnies into full blown bunny crack, she also has a sense of humor comparable to rabid pixies on a sugar high at Yaoi-con. Her style is definately her own.

I give up on the number 3, it's just not going to happen folks! Sabby, enjoy your 15 minutes in my mediocre spotlight girl! And crank out some more comic crack! *fluffles* XD

:iconkerinaty:

Alright, now here is an artist with loads of talent and an excellent eye for detail. Kerinaty has the female form down to perfection and her StarTrek fanarts are so imaginative. You absolutely have to read her descriptions when looking at her artwork. It's obvious how much thought she puts into her pieces, and like most good artists and writers, she takes inspiration from her dreams. The first piece I chose just absolutely jumped out at me. I love geishas, but the detail in Kerinaty's geishas is so stunning, not only did she get a lovely blush on the lady's face, but she got the fingers as well as the breasts, that is an area most people fail to realize looks enchanting when faintly blushed. It draws the eye and ands continuity as well as fluidity to the piece. It's definately one of my favorites. I also chose her baby star trek fan art, you must read her description of this piece. I :lmao: Plus the fact that she made Spock blush green was too perfect and accurate considering his grren blood! And of course, I had to get a panty shot in this feature, since she's so known for them! One look in this gallery and you'll know why so many people watch her!

6. :iconmythicphoenix:

Phoenix definately has an eye for photography. You'll notice that as soon as you enter her gallery. I absolutely love her Senior Pic with the cat. Her chibis and comics will have anyone smiling. I really enjoy her coloring too. The shades she chooses and the way she blends colors shows a good eye and strong talent. I think of all her gallery, I like Werewolves and Pumpkins the best! No, she didn't draw it, but as I said, she has an excellent eye for color and shading. And you have to respect anyone who sports green locks! This gallery is worth checking out!

************************************************************************
7. :iconraya:

Okay, first off, any fan of TBMFM, or The Biker Mice From Mars, automatically gets my respect! Lol, I love that show. Raya has a great style and makes use of very vibrant colors and clean lines. Her shading and perspective really make her pieces pop out at you. Raya's gallery is as expansive as it is eye catching, with everyting from anime to photography. It was difficult picking just a few pieces to post here, but I managed. Here are my favorites. You should definately stop by and toss her some cookies! Her work deserves them!

8. :iconclap-san:

This is an amazing artist I have been following for ages! Not only are his pencil pieces gorgeously rendered and detailed, but his watercolors are so smooth and serene....and yes, fluid. I know that seems a bit redundant when describing watercolors, but these are superb. The depth of emotion that clap-san is able to portray is stunning. All of his pieces flow so seemlessly, not to mention the sheer imagination behind some of his pieces. And he does commissions! I'm having a very diffictult time picking just a few pieces to display here. You definately have to check out this gallery!
The first I'm featuring is I think, my favorite of his watercolors.
